Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about SOUNDBLOX®? Our experienced team at York Building Products combines decades of proven expertise with innovative solutions and unwavering dedication to support your project needs. Find answers below.

How do the funnel-shaped slots in SOUNDBLOX® improve sound absorption?

The funnel-shaped slots in SOUNDBLOX® improve sound absorption by directing sound waves into a specialized internal resonator cavity. Within this cavity, a metal septum and fibrous filler actively work together, trapping and dissipating sound energy across different frequencies to ensure superior acoustical performance for your projects.

What frequency range does SOUNDBLOX® perform best in?

SOUNDBLOX® offers broad-spectrum sound absorption across tested frequencies from 125 Hz to 5,000 Hz. This range helps your construction projects manage sounds from lower-frequency noise to higher-frequency tones, supporting more effective acoustic control in various spaces.

What’s the difference between SOUNDBLOX® and standard acoustic blocks?

SOUNDBLOX® differs from standard acoustic blocks through its proprietary cavity-slot resonator construction, integrated with distinct funnel-shaped slots and an advanced internal system featuring a metal septum and fibrous filler. This combination provides enhanced sound absorption over a broader frequency range and more effective, reliable noise control for your applications compared to standard acoustic blocks.

Can SOUNDBLOX® be used for both interior and exterior applications?

SOUNDBLOX® can be used for both your interior and exterior construction needs. Its concrete masonry unit (CMU) design ensures high-performance sound control regardless of location. You get flexible, reliable solutions for various types of building envelopes and internal spaces.

Does the metal septum affect the structural integrity of SOUNDBLOX®?

The metal septum within SOUNDBLOX® does not affect its structural integrity. It is designed to boost acoustical performance without compromising the block’s inherent structure. All of our products undergo rigorous testing to ensure exceptional performance and the highest safety standards for your applications, so you can confidently rely on SOUNDBLOX®.
